Nice French Riviera City break was on my checklist of places to visit for a long time. Its heritage oozes with old world opulence, entwined with that chic notion. It has all the key qualities needed for a city break, From enchanting culture, wealth of restaurants and luring beaches.
We were on a group holiday whilst the husbands participated in Ironman Nice, so we did not have time to venture far, but there is plenty to experience in walkable distance. For our Nice French Riviera City break we rented an apartment, we felt no need for a hotel with food provided as we wanted to make the most of the local produce and eateries.
Our apartment had a gym, a must facility for the food we were sure to consume. An hours early morning workout is swiftly followed on by a stroll out to local cafes in the morning for croissants and coffee.
There were two parts to Nice, set back of the Prom de Anglais there is New town, with its modern vibe where you can find shops boasting boutiques, channel, Louis Vuitton, Armani and more. Then there’s the old town, particularly adorned with shops selling local produce and food. baguettes, chocolates, sweets.
I just adore the timeless ambience captured beautifully within the perennial buildings. Whilst the Newtown is mostly neutral tones, the old town is rich in colour, deep oranges, yellows and reds.
Observe the world go by as you sit in a cafe, sampling the ice creams, sipping on coffee, tasting the delicacies and people watching particularly.
It’s fascinating the variety of locale, theres the elderly whom look wise with their years, charming faces and seasoned hands. On the other hand of the spectrum there are the effortlessly stylish French women, oh how they radiate class! Wether in heels or pumps, they have such a simple organic beauty about them.
Speaking of pumps, it’s well worth following suit and wearing flats. As afternoons roll into evenings there is walking a plenty. traffic is extremely heavy in the city and walking will get you places much quicker. I personally opted for converse and sandals. I wore heels one evening and I suffered for it!
It’s well worth cycling your way around. That doesnt mean you have to change into sports wear, in fear of building up a sweat. Do it in style, on a vintage bike, tailored shorts and a Blouse!
The beaches, although pebbles, are beautiful. Rest in a beach cafe, or lounge on a comfy sun lounger and watch the clear blue water lap over the large smooth round pebbles, whilst sipping on a gin and tonic.. or whatever takes your fancy!
Watch the Luxury private Yachts sail in and out of port lymphatic. A humbling old Mediterranean port, nestled in the mountains. Here you can also enjoy ferry rides throughout the Mediterranean. Enjoy a sunset meal and drink wine on the cliff top, as the sun fades the lights from the harbour glow. And the clinking of glasses, tables of laughter and aroma of food will complete your evening.
Our French Riviera city break was everything I envisioned, romantic, timeless and beautiful.
